OSCE supports new coalition government in former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia
SKOPJE 14 May 2001
SKOPJE, 12 May 2001 - The following statement regarding the establishment of a new Macedonian coalition government was issued by Ambassador Robert Frowick, Personal Representative of the Chairman-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
"On the behalf of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Mircea Geoana, I congratulate the leadership of the VMRO-DPMNE, SDSM, DPA and PDP political parties for their decision on 11 May to establish a new coalition government in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
The OSCE will strongly support the efforts of this new government, manifestly strengthening the political unity of the country in the intensification of the dialogue aimed at reforms.
At the same time, OSCE will make every effort, in co-ordination with the European Union and NATO in particular, to help bring about a cessation of hostilities.
OSCE reiterates its call for a withdrawal of armed ethnic Albanian extremists. Only with a restoration of stability can democratically elected leaders succeed in their political dialogue.
