OSCE Chairman-in-Office concerned with unstable situation in Chechnya

WARSAW, 8 January 1998 - The Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, Polish Foreign Minister Bronislaw Geremek, issued the following statement from Warsaw today:
The OSCE Chairman-in-Office is deeply concerned with the aggravation of the situation in Chechnya. It has been over a year and a half since the landmark Khasavyurt Agreement was signed to end the bloodshed in Chechnya.
The Polish Chairmanship welcomes the continued fruitful discussion between all parties to the conflict, including the recent Hague Initiative meeting in Kazan.
The Chairmanship calls on all the parties to show maximum restraint.
