OSCE Chairman-in-Office calls on parties to negotiate on Kosovo
OSLO 4 February 1999
OSLO, 4 February 1999 - The Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, Norwegian Foreign Minister Knut Vollebaek, calls on the Government of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to commit itself to the peace negotiations on Kosovo due to start on Saturday in Rambouillet, France. He also strongly appeals to the Kosovar Albanians to form a unified team for the talks.
This is the final chance for a peaceful way out of this conflict, he said. I appeal to the parties to use this opportunity constructively and actively participate in the political process.
Mr. Vollebaek sent Ambassador Kai Eide, Chairman of the OSCE Permanent Council, to Belgrade yesterday to deliver this appeal personally to President Milosevic and Foreign Minister Jovanovic. A similar appeal will be delivered to the Kosovar Albanian leadership.
The Norwegian Chairmanship of the OSCE will represent the Organization at the talks.
