OSCE Chairman's representative in Central Asia discusses political issues with Kyrgyz leadership

BISHKEK, 25 November 2005 - Alojz Peterle, the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office for the participating States in Central Asia, today met key members of the Government here, including the Head of State, to discuss current political developments in Kyrgyzstan.
President Kurmanbek Bakiev emphasized the very good co-operation between Kyrgyzstan, the Organization and the OSCE Centre in Bishkek on the ground. This co-operation included activities in fighting against corruption, constitutional reform, and policing.
The OSCE Personal Representative underlined the need to continue the constructive debate on constitutional reform, which is a prerequisite of political stability and the economic development of the country.
He also met Foreign Minister Alibek Jekshenkulov, and the Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament Omurbek Tekebaev.
Alojz Peterle also addressed the conference 'Constitutional reform in the Kyrgyz Republic: International Review,' and stressed the need for further dialogue and decisions to ensure stability and prosperity in the country.
"We would like to reassure you that the ODIHR and the OSCE Centre in Bishkek are ready to render further assistance, including the expertise, in the process of the constitutional reform," he said.
