A substantive 5+2 in June remains the objective, says OSCE Special Representative for Transdniestrian Settlement Process
CHISINAU, 12 May 2016 – The Special Representative of the German OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transdniestrian Settlement Process, Cord Meier-Klodt, today concluded a visit to the region, which included meetings with the chief negotiators in Chisinau and Tiraspol.
“The objective of holding substantive talks in the 5+2 format – as voiced by the Mediators and Observers during their visit in April – remains within reach,” said Meier-Klodt. “The sides have a responsibility to people on both banks of the Dniester/Nistru River to take advantage of this opportunity. In my meetings, I encouraged the sides to remain actively engaged with each other to ensure that we achieve this collective objective.”
Following his visit, the Special Representative will travel to Moscow and Kyiv to co-ordinate with his co-mediators in moving the settlement process forward.
“I highly appreciate the commitment and engagement of my international partners,” said Meier-Klodt. “The common vision and efforts of the Mediators and Observers have been instrumental in assisting all of us to create the opportunity we now have to realize a substantive 5+2 meeting.”
Talks in the 5+2 format include the participation of representatives of the sides, Mediators and Observers – Moldova, Transdniestria, the OSCE, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, the United States and the European Union.
