Ergneti IPRM 50th meeting completed today, OSCE and EUMM co-facilitators commend participants’ continued engagement
ERGNETI, 17 November 2014 - At today’s 50th meeting under the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) the co-facilitators, Toivo Klaar, the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM), and Ambassador Angelo Gnaedinger, OSCE Special Representative of the Swiss OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus, commended and thanked participants for their continuing engagement.
Klaar stressed that “these regular meetings of security actors have considerably contributed to the stabilization of the security situation on the ground”.
Ambassador Gnaedinger encouraged participants to continue to engage in the IPRM in a spirit of pragmatism and with a focus on tangible results to the benefit of the conflict-affected communities.
Participants discussed the impact of fences and surveillance equipment on local communities’ freedom of movement and livelihood. They raised questions related to law enforcement and detention, welcoming the prompt resolution of some recent cases.
They also reviewed issues related to the upcoming winter period, such as the collection of firewood.
The next IPRM meeting will take place on 20 January 2015.
