Yeltsin to meet with Yanderbiev in Moscow
GROZNY, 23 May 1996 - The following press statement was issued by the Head of the OSCE Assistance Group to Chechnya, Ambassador Tim Guldimann, today:
The conflict in Chechnya should be settled. Boris Yeltsin has expressed his readiness to meet with Zelimkhan Yanderbiev. It has been agreed that this meeting should take place in the very near future in Moscow.
A preliminary agreement has been reached on the necessity of resuming the dialogue between the two sides of the armed conflict on the basis of the principles of the Agreement of the Peaceful Settlement of the Situation in the Chechen Republic (concerning military questions) signed on 30 July 1995 by the plenipotentiary delegations of the Government of the Russian Federation and of the Chechen Republic Ichkeria.*
