OSCE Centre refurbishes Kyrgyz Public TV resource centre
BISHKEK, 24 February, 2012 - The donation of computer equipment and furniture from the OSCE Centre in Bishkek to the Kyrgyzstan’s Public TV resource centre took place today.
The Kyrgyz Public TV resource centre consisting of a conference room and a computer room was set up as part of OSCE Centre’s support to the public television. The resource centre will be used for meetings, research and training.
Head of Political Military Dimension of OSCE Office in Bishkek, Ross Brown said: “We support capacity development of the Public TV in Kyrgyzstan, which is an important instrument in building democratic and accountable institutions and contributes to meeting the OSCE media freedom commitments.”
“We are a young public TV channel established less than two years ago, and we believe the OSCE’s support to our resource centre is instrumental for its work aimed at promoting pluralism of opinions and media freedom in Kyrgyzstan,” said Kubat Otorbaev, Director General of the Kyrgyz Public TV and Radio.
The ceremony marked the conclusion of an OSCE Centre-supported project aimed at reinforcing free public TV in Kyrgyzstan. In the framework of this project, representatives from parliament, the Public TV, and members of the Supervisory Board of the TV also participated in 2011 in study tours to Georgia and Lithuania.
