OSCE Centre in Bishkek gives awards to best neighborhood police inspectors
On the occasion of the Day of the Neighborhood Police Inspector an OSCE-supported award ceremony for winners of a competition among inspectors of the Chuy and Talas Departments of the Interior Ministry took place on 10 November 2011 in Bishkek.
The contest provided an opportunity for the communities, elderly people and local authorities to assess the work of neighborhood inspectors. Prizes were awarded to the “best neighborhood inspector”, “the most responsive inspector”, “the most active inspector” and “the best friend of the elderly”.
“Police neighbourhood inspectors are a key element in community security and policing,” said Ambassador Andrew Tesoriere, the Head of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek. “The selection of the best neighbourhood inspectors in Chui and Talas Provinces by their local community partners is based on the principle ‘Kyrgyz Police - with you and for you’ which is the motto of the OSCE-supported Police Reform Programme in Kyrgyzstan”.
Almazbek Moldokmatov, the Chief of the Community Policing Department of the Interior Ministry added: “Such contests are important in terms of enhancing the image of police officers, highlighting the importance of their work and contributing to the establishment of trust and partnership with local communities. It is also a good motivation tool, as best neighborhood inspectors serve as a positive example for his/her colleagues across the country.”
The event was organized as a part of support of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek to the project on community policing for the elderly implemented by the non-governmental organization HelpAge International.
