An OSCE-supported training course that aimed to help Kyrgyzstan's police improve the quality of its investigations concluded on 25 July 2011 in the town of Balykchy in the north-eastern province of Issyk-Kul.
The one-month course for 21 police officers from different parts of the country and the Interior Ministry included ballistic examination of firearms and ammunitions. At the end of the course, participants were certified as experts who can conduct examinations on district and provincial levels.
“Forensic examination and crime scene investigation are essential components in providing impartial evidence and securing convictions,” said Lilian Darii, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek.
Kanat Imanaliev, the Chief of the Interior Ministry’s Forensic Centre, added: “This training course, which was developed to meet the police service's needs, helped forensic experts from across Kyrgyzstan to develop their skills and to contribute to quicker investigation of crimes.”
The courses were organized by the Interior Ministry and Kyrgyzstan with the support from the OSCE Centre in Bishkek’s Police Reform Programme.
