OSCE Centre in Bishkek holds seminar on access to information

BISHKEK, 11 March 2004 - Establishing better ties between government press services and independent media and ensuring access to information was the main topic of a seminar held in Bishkek on 9 and 10 March.
The two-day event, called "Information Accessibility and Co-operation between the central and regional Press Services and Mass Media in Kyrgyzstan," was organized by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek in co-operation with the Kyrgyz Presidential Administration.
"Free access to information is the main indicator of a civilised society", said Iosif Dzyaloshinskyi of the Independent Communication Institute. "Both press services and journalists should facilitate such development through their efficient co-operation".
The seminar was attended by 33 representatives of government press services and 17 media outlets from all regions of Kyrgyzstan as well as experts from the Independent Communication Institute (Russia), UNDP and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (Germany).
