OSCE Centre in Bishkek co-operates with government of Kyrgyzstan on enhancing security
The OSCE Centre in Bishkek signed long-term bilateral agreements on cooperation in the sphere of combating terrorism and arms control with the Kyrgyz Ministry of Defence and the Kyrgyz National Guard on July 10, 2015.
The signing of the agreements will contribute to joint efforts in combatting internal and external threats and protecting security in Kyrgyzstan.
Ambassador Sergey Kapinos, the Head of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek said at the signing ceremony that they will boost the close cooperation with the Kyrgyz government in ensuring an effective fight against terrorism and arms control.
Referring to the agreement on combatting terrorism, Zamir Suerkulov, First Deputy Minister of Defence noted that he is confident that it will begin “a long and mutually fruitful cooperation in the prevention of international terrorism and extremism.”
As Kapinos said, "Today terrorism is a global threat to civilized humanity and has a huge destabilizing potential. Terrorism has no nationality, no religion, and is one of the most serious threats to OSCE participating states in general, and the Central Asian region in particular.”
As part of its counter-terrorism and arms control projects, the OSCE Centre in Bishkek has held a variety of activities over the past few years aimed at strengthening the international rule of law, ensuring the reliability of passports and other travel documents, combating cyber-terrorism, violent extremism and radicalization and protecting critical energy infrastructure.
