City transport illustrates journey to brighter future
17 January 2003
Moving forward
"This tram is just one of the tools used to make people think about the importance of reforming education," Deputy Head of OSCE Mission to BiH, Ambassador Zipper de Fabiani said. "It is important for the future of this country and its children - they deserve a better education and a brighter future."
He also pointed out that teachers and children of BiH, together with education authorities and their partners in the international community, have embarked on a journey towards efficient schools that meet with modern European standards. The tram painted with education reform campaign slogans is a symbol of that journey.
Stops along the way
After the official launching ceremony, Ambassador Fabiani invited all present, including students, on a symbolic "ride to future reforms in the country".
The tram ride ended in front of OSCE offices at Kulina Bana Street, after which Ambassador Fabiani had a meeting with students and discussed the ongoing reform of education in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"We need more experimental classes, and more interactive teaching", Neira Delic, student from Vrhbosna primary school, said. "For instance, there are many experiments in physics that we need to see in order to learn, and we do not have proper equipment".
A positive journey
Ambassador Fabiani told students that he hoped to see reform implemented as soon as possible, and agreed that teaching and learning should be a more interactive process.
He stressed that a reformed education system would respect community differences and cautioned that cultural differences should not be used to divide people, but to enrich society.
The promotional tram painted with the education campaign slogans will cruise around the city throughout the year.
