OSCE Mission awards media prize to four Bosnia and Herzegovina journalists
SARAJEVO 3 June 2003
SARAJEVO, 3 June 2003 - Four journalists today received the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina media award, for their outstanding coverage of education issues. The media awards were set up to encourage journalists in Bosnia and Herzegovina to regularly cover all aspects of education and resulted in 96 contributions from 27 journalists.
Danijela Bozic from TV Liberty, was awarded the first prize for her TV show on education, Angelina Simic, a journalist at Oslobodjenje, got the second prize for her ongoing coverage of education issues, and Aida Dizdarevic, working for Federation Radio, received the third prize for an education programme. A special jury prize was awarded to Maja Anzulovic from Bosnia and Herzegovina's Federal TV.
"The jury was not faced with an easy task," said Besim Spahic, journalist and jury member, at the award ceremony held at Sarajevo's Media Centre. "The submissions showed both professionalism and genuine interest in the issues covered."
The overall winner, Ms. Bozic, was awarded her prize for outstanding professionalism in conceptualizing education issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina, for selecting competent participants and commentators for her debate TV show, and for her extraordinary moderation, which addressed a wide range of education issues.
Ms. Simic received the OSCE Mission's awards for a series of 20 articles about reform of higher education in the country, and for her continuous, competent and thematically diverse coverage of the issue. Ms. Dizdarevic was awarded the third prize for a series of radio shows at Federation Radio on innovations in teaching, in particular her shows on young innovators in the country.
The jury unanimously decided to also award the editor of the "Za i Protiv" (For and against) shows, Ms. Anzulovic, and her team, with the Special Media Project Award. The show does not represent classic journalistic work, but supports children in the development of logical thinking, dialectical culture, ability to form arguments, competitive spirit and is a great mechanism for case-making.
The jury members were: Snijezana Musa, lecturer at Mostar University, Senada Cumurovic, Editor-in-chief of BH Radio 1, Rahela Dzidic, CIVITAS, Nada Puvacic, Editor of RTRS Education Program, Boro Kontic, Director of the Media Centre, and Professor Besim Spahic.
