Private accomodation to be used to house evicted families in Bosnia and Herzegovina
BANJA LUKA 15 May 2001
BANJA LUKA, 15 May 2001 (OSCE) - The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina welcomes the offer of the Banja Luka Municipality to rent space from private citizens in order to provide accommodation for evicted families entitled to alternative accommodation.
The decision is the result of negotiations between the international community and the Mayor of Banja Luka and was advertised in several local media outlets last week.
"A good response to this offer may provide the responsible bodies with a new tool for a more correct implementation of the property laws. The sum of 200-300 KM (konvertibilna marka) per month offered per housing unit made available for alternative accommodation purposes constitutes in our view a fair compensation for the usage of empty houses in the outskirts of town or in the villages of the greater Banja Luka area. We encourage the owners of available houses and summer houses to respond positively and promptly to this proposal," stated Roger Bryant, Director of OSCE Regional Center Banja Luka.
OSCE will monitor very closely the process of identification, selection and allocation of the chosen properties for rent to ascertain that all the proceedings are carried out in respect of the rights of all parties involved in the agreements.
