OSCE delegates observe democratization activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina

SARAJEVO,10 May 2001 - High-ranking officials from the permanent missions of OSCE participating States visited the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina this week to observe democratization programmes and activities conducted by the Mission.
The delegation visited Zenica-Doboj Mayors' Forum, where they were able to observe OSCE national trainers conducting a strategic planning seminar. On this occasion, Zenica-Doboj Governor, Mr. Mugdin Herceg and other Cantonal Officials initiated a discussion on the OSCE Cantonal Administration Project. In addition, municipal mayors and speakers discussed their involvement in the Municipal Infrastructure Finance and Implementation Program.
"This visit provided us with an opportunity to demonstrate to the permanent representatives from Vienna the important field work being done by OSCE, specifically as it relates to our democratization programmes," said Mr. Sverre Johan Kvale, Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina Democratization Department.
In Brcko, the delegates met with Members of the Brcko Women's Roundtable and women councillors of the Brcko District Assembly. Roundtable Representatives presented ideas they would like the councillors to raise and, in the future, follow-up as appropriate in the Assembly.
During the three-day visit, the delegates also observed the training programme of the Cantonal Administration Project, Roles and Responsibilities for Assembly Members, conducted by OSCE national trainers in Odzak.
