OSCE welcomes agreement on Bosnia and Herzegovina canton government
SARAJEVO 9 April 2001
SARAJEVO, 9 April 2001 - The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina commends the work of the political parties in the Central Bosnia Canton last week for coming to agreement on a government for the canton. General agreement was reached by the parties on how to allocate positions in the government, and the OSCE expects an agreement to be finalized early this week.
"In my meetings with the Governor, Deputy Governor, and various party representatives in Travnik last week I expressed my confidence that they would come together for the good of the people of the canton and find the political will to move forward," said Ambassador Robert L. Barry, Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina. "We are strongly encouraged by the progress made at the end of last week in resolving the remaining questions and trust that it marks the end of the delays in implementing the election results in the canton."
In his visit to Travnik last week Ambassador Barry also expressed the commitment of the OSCE to assisting the government of the Central Bosnia Canton once it is finally approved, and pledged to work with it to improve public administration, streamline budgeting processes, and make it more efficient overall.
