OSCE Governance Programme continues in Bosnia and Herzegovina

SARAJEVO, 27 February 2001 - From 27 February to 9 March, the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue and complete "Roles and Responsibilities" training for municipal councillors in the final five municipalities in the Municipal Infrastructure and Implementation (MIFI) programme.
MIFI addresses elements of good governance necessary to public administration. In 2001, MIFI accepted 12 new municipalities as partners in their programme, making a total of 34 co-operating municipalities. Of these, Gacko, Vitez, Kladanj, Pale/Praca and Gradacac remain to be trained in the Roles and Responsibilities segment of the MIFI training program. Municipal councillors from each municipality will attend a local two-day seminar focusing on efficient, effective and accountable work of Municipal councils as a local legislative body.

The OSCE established its present Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 18 December 1995. In accordance with the General Framework Agreement for Peace (GFAP), the OSCE Mission activities are to promote Democratization and the building of a vibrant civil society, foster the development of professional journalism and monitor the rights of journalists, monitor and advance the Human Rights situation, supervise the conduct of Elections, and encourage Regional Stabilization through arms control and confidence and security-building measures.
The OSCE Mission continues to work closely with other international organizations and local institutions to implement the Dayton Peace Accords.
