Voter notification begins in Bosnia and Herzegovina
SARAJEVO 22 June 2000
SARAJEVO, 22 June 2000 - The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina together with Municipal Election Commissions (MEC) is providing voter notifications to all voters that are currently on the preliminary voters' rolls.
A voter notification consists of the voter's data from the preliminary voter register: name, ID, registration ID, polling station number, location of the polling station. In the case the voter is not satisfied with her/his current registration data as written on this notification, she/he should visit a
Voter Registration Center before July 10th, the deadline for in-country voter registration for scheduled general elections in November.
The Municipal Election Commissions are in possession of preliminary voters' register for each municipality. Preliminary voter registers are an up-date of the voters' rolls used for the municipal elections and include new registrants and changes that have since been made upon voters' request.
The voters can check their registration details in the municipality building and other public places such as community offices where in most municipalities the preliminary voters' rolls are made available to the citizens. The MECs will begin distribution of the voter notifications next week through their agents who are on a local level familiar with the residence of the population.
The OSCE established its present Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 18 December 1995. In accordance with the General Framework Agreement for Peace, the OSCE Mission activities are to promote Democratization and the building of a vibrant civil society, foster the development of Professional journalism and monitor the rights of journalists, monitor and advance the Human Rights situation, supervise the conduct of Elections, and encourage Regional Stabilization through arms control and confidence and security-building measures. The OSCE Mission continues to work closely with other international organizations and local institutions to implement the Dayton Peace Accords.
