Three elected officials removed for violating conflict of interest rule in Bosnia and Herzegovina
SARAJEVO 14 April 2000
SARAJEVO, 14 April 2000 - The Provisional Election Commission in Bosnia and Herzegovina has removed the elected mandates of Pero Markovic from the HDZ, Halid Cengic from the SDA and Tarik Carsimamovic from the KCD for violation of Rule 7.18 on incompatibility and conflict of interest.
The three officials were previously elected to the following bodies:
The Provisional Election Commission adopted Rule 7.18 on incompatibility on 18 February 2000. This regulation prohibits elected officials from being directors or members of steering boards, executive boards or supervisory boards of state enterprises of which governmental unit owns more than 25 percent of its capital and/or if more than 25 percent of its business activities are financed from government budgets.
The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to check the status of elected officials' compliance with the rule on incompatibility. Any elected official in Bosnia and Herzegovina found in violation of this rule can be removed from office.
