Statement by the OSCE Office in Baku
29 August 2011
BAKU, 28 August 2011 - The OSCE Office in Baku is concerned about the convictions of political activists Babek Hasanov, Zulfugar Eyvazov, Elshan Hasanov, Arif Alishli, Elnur Israfilov and Sahib Karimov in connection with their participation in the 2 April demonstration.
The Office has monitored the court case and we have concerns about the fairness of the court proceedings.
We hope for further comprehensive review by the Court of Appeal, and express our willingness to continue working with the Government to support judicial reforms and the full exercise of fundamental rights and freedoms, including freedom of assembly.
