OSCE promotes modern labour migration management at event in Kazakhstan
KARAGANDY, Kazakhstan, 14 November 2012 – The introduction of migration management into the curriculum at specialized educational institutions is the subject of a train-the-trainers event which started in Karagandy in central Kazakhstan today.
The three-day course for some 40 migration experts and lecturers at the Interior Ministry’s Karagandy Academy was organized by the OSCE Centre in Astana in partnership with the Interior Ministry, the International Organization for Migration and the United Nations Women Sub-Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
“Labour migration has an important impact on regional security. The OSCE Centre supports national stakeholders’ efforts to promote modern labour migration policies and practices to help create win-win solutions for both countries of origin and destination,” said Ambassador Natalia Zarudna, the Head of the OSCE Centre in Astana. “The inclusion of a migration management component into the Interior Ministry’s education and training programmes in accordance with recognized international standards is a significant step forward.”
The training course looks at the international legal framework for migration governance and addresses issues related to migration mobility, the freedom of movement, state responsibilities, the determination of refugee status as well as gender-related aspects of migration legislation and practices.
The event is part of the OSCE Centre’s activities to promote good governance in labour migration through capacity building and introducing international good practices.
After the event Ambassador Zarudna met Police Colonel Djan Kenzhetaev, the Head of the Interior Ministry’s Karagandy Academy to discuss future co-operation.
