Students learn about OSCE in seminars supported by Centre in Almaty
ALMATY, 26 February 2007 - Students in Kazakhstan are learning about the OSCE's activities and history in a series of five seminars starting today.
The seminars, organized by the OSCE Centre in Almaty in co-operation with the Foreign Ministry and the Hamburg Centre for OSCE Research, cover issues such as the Organization's goals, mechanisms, field activities, reform and future perspectives.
"The OSCE is a unique regional structure because of its broad membership, comprehensive approach to security, established tradition of open dialogue and large network of field missions," said Ambassador Ivar Vikki, Head of the OSCE Centre.
"Today's students, many of whom are future policy-makers, will determine how the potential of this Organization will be developed and used for the benefit of its 56 participating States."
The project is part of the Centre's work to raise awareness about the OSCE and its co-operation with Kazakhstan. Similar events for government officials and parliamentary deputies are planned for later this year.
