OSCE completes seminar series on human rights protection mechanisms in Kazakhstan
The last in a series of five OSCE-supported training seminars for representatives of the government, civil society and judiciary on human rights protection mechanisms concluded in Aktau, Kazakhstan on 28 October 2016.
The two-day event involved some 150 representatives of the Aktau and Fort-Shevchenko administrations of the Mangystau region, as well as judges, prosecutors, law enforcement officers and members of civil society who were familiarized with national and international mechanisms for human rights protection and the functions of different agencies in the network of protective institutions.
In particular, participants focused on international standards for protecting women’s and children’s rights and the provision of social services to victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. Special attention was paid to the novelties in labour legislation, the prevention of labour and social conflicts, non-compete agreements, social partnerships, as well as disciplinary and material responsibility of employees and resolution of labour disputes.
The event was organized by the Human Rights Commission under the President with the support of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana. Similar activities were supported earlier this year in the Aktobe, Almaty, Kyzylorda and Pavlodar regions as part of the Office’s long-term efforts to support national human rights institutions in promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms in the host country.
