OSCE trains young water management experts in Kazakhstan
A two-day training seminar on the methods of efficient water management for some 25 students from Kazakhstan’s five leading academic institutions concluded on 10 June 2016 in Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan.
The OSCE Programme Office in Astana in co-operation with the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea Executive Directorate in Kazakhstan organized the event for young specialists to learn about the theory and techniques of modern water metering through panel discussions, case studies and field work at the Baikadam and Kyzylorda water facilities.
National experts helped participants develop a specific set of recommendations with a fresh outlook on the challenges and perspectives in the national water sector. The activity also provided an opportunity to the young specialists to develop and defend their master’s theses under the guidance of leading water experts.
The project follows the commitments, underlined in the Memorandum of Understanding between the International Fund and the Programme Office in 2010. The document aims to support initiatives that will protect the fragile ecosystem and water resources of the Aral Sea basin.
