OSCE marks World Day against Trafficking in Persons by supporting public awareness campaign in Astana
The OSCE Programme Office in Astana, marking the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, supported a public awareness campaign on combating trafficking in human beings in Astana on 30 July 2015. The initiative was carried out in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the local NGO “Korgau” and in co-operation with the City Police Administration.
Some 45 NGO volunteers distributed booklets describing ways how to prevent trafficking, quoting articles from the national criminal code and referring to the specific hotline number established on behalf of the Interior Ministry. Banners and T-shirts visibly displayed OSCE’s and IOM’s commitment in raising awareness against the crime. The campaign further unfolded by the means of a flash mob, a video broadcasting and the dissemination of leaflets at the train station.
The information campaign specifically targeted youngsters, women and other potentially-vulnerable categories, while aiming at drawing attention to the human trafficking phenomenon across different segments of society.
The event is part of the OSCE Programme Office’s longstanding effort to support the host country in counteracting trafficking and implementing the OSCE Action Plan to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings.
