OSCE trains prosecutors on conflict resolution and trial techniques in Kazakhstan
A two-day training seminar on conflict resolution and basic trial techniques for some 30 middle-level staff of Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General’s Office began on 26 February 2015 in Astana.
The event, co-organised by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana and the Institute under the Prosecutor General’s Office, aims to address challenges that prosecutors face in court proceedings. It intends to enhance their professional knowledge and improve their skills in conflict resolution on criminal and civil cases, ability to make expedient and constructive solutions, as well as conduct dialogue with all involved parties in the light of plea bargaining provisions introduced in the new Criminal Procedure Code adopted in 2014.
The seminar is led by an international expert from the United Kingdom who will share his experience and good practices in preparing legal documents, public speaking and speechwriting with a specific focus on challenges for law enforcement in accordance with new criminal justice procedures.
The event is part of the Programme Office’s long-term activities on strengthening the capacity-building of law enforcement agencies in connection with criminal justice reform in Kazakhstan.
