Study visit to Turkey on judicial training organized by OSCE Centre
ASHGABAT, 17 December 2010 - Training of judges and prosecutors in Turkey has been the focus of an OSCE Centre-organized study trip to Ankara and Istanbul that concludes today.
Representatives of the Supreme Court, General Prosecutor's Office, Parliament and Justice Ministry of Turkmenistan took part in the one-week trip organized by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat in co-operation with the Justice Academy of Turkey and the International Cooperation and Development Agency of Turkey.
"This working visit helped Turkmenistan representatives to familiarize themselves with the Turkish judicial system as well as with the role of Justice Academy in Turkey, another OSCE participating State," said Begoña Piñeiro Costas, the Officer-in-Charge at the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat.
"The study visit participants had an opportunity to learn more about the mandate, activities and the system of management of the Justice Academy of Turkey and, in particular, about the role played by this Academy in organizing and providing initial and in-service training to judges and public prosecutors."
In addition to the comprehensive programme at the Justice Academy, in Ankara the delegation had meetings at the Justice Ministry where they were introduced to the Turkish judicial system, judiciary exams and the work of the Ministry's Data Processing Department. In Istanbul, the participants visited a training centre at the General Directorate of Penal and Arrest Institution, the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Istanbul and the Istanbul Courthouse.
"We believe in the importance of exchange of knowledge and experience between counterpart institutions from different countries. I hope this study visit was useful for our Turkmen colleagues," noted Sami Sezai Ural, Acting President of Justice Academy of Turkey.
The visit followed last year's study visit to the French National School of Magistrates, and a workshop on judicial education organized by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat this September.
