OSCE and Women's Union of Turkmenistan promote gender training

ASHGABAD, 10 November 2003 - A four-day training seminar on promoting gender issues has ended in the Turkmen capital, Ashgabad.
The seminar, the first of a series of three, was organized in close co-operation with the Women's Union of Turkmenistan. It was aimed at identifying and training future local trainers on gender issues. The 20 participants included representatives from local resource initiatives and from the Women's Union of Turkmenistan.
The main expert of the seminar, from Moldova, brought with her rich experience in women's rights training. Representatives of the Ashgabad UNDP and UNICEF Offices contributed to the training. Topics such as current Turkmen legislation, legal protection of women, health care, access to education for women and other related issues were addressed.
The second phase of the programme foresees extensive training on women's rights in different regions of the country.
