OSCE information seminar held in Turkmenabat

TURKMENABAT, 5 October 2002 - A seminar on "What is the OSCE" was held in the city of Turkmenabat on 5 October. The seminar was a part of a series of information seminars, organized by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat and held in co-operation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The series of seminars has been held continually throughout the country since 2001. The series is aimed at making the people of Turkmenistan better acquainted with the Organization, its principles and its activities. The seminar included presentations on the history and the role of the OSCE, its structures, institutions and the "security dimensions".
Within the scope of the seminar, the Special Adviser to the OSCE Chairman-in-Office on Central Asia, Ambassador Herbert Salber gave an address on the topic, 'The OSCE and Central Asia". Particular attention was paid to the OSCE's activities and projects in Turkmenistan.
The seminar participants included representatives from ministries, public organizations, scientific and educational circles, and the mass media.
