OSCE Centre supports health and safety camp for young Turkmens
ASHGABAD 4 August 2005
ASHGABAD, 4 August 2005 - A one-week youth summer camp focusing on health and safety issues was held with support of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabad in the Kopet-Dag mountains near Turkmenistan's capital, Ashgabad.
Some 25 children aged between 12 and 16 took part in the event, which was organized by the Ashgabad-based Aikido-Lachin Club. Four trainers held several interactive lessons which included games and excursions and provided the basis for discussions about disease prevention, drug abuse, and social competence.
"The children were so excited to be here, away from home in this beautiful environment, that they did not realize how much they were learning," said one of the trainers, Irina Izumova. "Our objective is to continue with these camps because they are best suited to get the children on the right track for their future life."
The OSCE Centre plans to support similar activities for the youth of Turkmenistan in the future.
