ASHGABAD, 2 June 2005 - Children of all ages took part in an art competition, which ended in the Turkmenistan capital on 1 June, using art forms to express their concern about the world, suggest possible solutions for these concerns and share their dreams, expectations and hopes for the future.
The event, sponsored by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabad and UNICEF and organized in connection with the International Child Protection Day, was attended by youth groups and members of an association for children with disabilities.
The jury noted the artistic talent, richness of imagination and positive spirit evident in each and every picture.
"This artwork shows not only that there is a lot of talent in this generation, but that they are beginning to think globally and about being part of the world community," said Evan Tracz, Project Co-ordinator for the OSCE Centre in Ashgabad. "It's great to see so much enthusiasm and creativity."
The drawings and paintings were displayed in a gallery outside the event hall at an Ashgabat hotel. OSCE and UNICEF representatives awarded prizes to the winners in each category.
"There were no losers in this competition," added Evan Tracz. "Each child was awarded a small prize for participating."
The OSCE Centre in Ashgabad supports arts education on a continuous basis. Last year, the Centre co-sponsored a similar competition.
