OSCE Presence welcomes new laws on Central Election Commission and voter registration in Albania
TIRANA 22 October 2004
TIRANA, 22 October 2004 - The OSCE Presence in Albania welcomes the passage by the Albanian Assembly yesterday of the law on changing the Electoral Code with regard to the composition of the Central Election Commission and the Law on Verification, Identification and Registration of Citizens from Local Government Units.
The OSCE Presence acknowledges this positive development as another step in furthering the current electoral reform process.
The Presence commends the large consensus demonstrated in adopting the legislation. It now looks forward to timely and full implementation in good faith of both these laws, including the political agreement on the Central Election Commission of 14 October.
The OSCE Presence in Albania will continue to follow this process closely.
