TIRANA, 15 July 2004 - The OSCE Presence in Albania delivered 19 desktop computers with monitors and three laser printers to the Court for Serious Crimes, an Albanian institution which became operational at the beginning of 2004.
Yesterday's delivery marked the first step in the establishment of a computer network to facilitate the Court's work and to make its activities better known to the public.
The OSCE Presence donated the Information Technology equipment in the framework of the Fair Trial Development Project, aimed at increasing transparency in court practices and raising trial standards.
The project reflects the Presence's mandate in the field of rule of law and human rights to facilitate the capacity building of legal institutions and to encourage them to develop rules promoting more transparency.
The Presence is ready to provide further assistance to the judiciary and prosecutors in order to promote the establishment and functioning of Albanian institutions based on the principles of the rule of law.
