OSCE Presence, Albanian Inspectorate organize training on conflict of interest
TIRANA 13 June 2007
TIRANA, 13 June 2007 - A series of seminars aimed at enabling Albanian officials to identify and report conflict of interest cases in the local government administration ended in Tirana today.
The courses were organized by the OSCE Presence and the Inspectorate for the Disclosure and Verification of Assets. Over 120 mayors and other local government officials from the 12 regions of Albania took part in the courses held in Shkodra, Korca, Saranda and Tirana from May to June.
"This project adds to the support provided by the Presence to the Inspectorate in implementing the Law on Assets Declaration and Auditing in 2004 and 2005. It fulfils part of the Presence's mandate to support government initiatives in the fight against corruption and increase institutional capacity towards better implementation of the legislation," said Darcie Nielsen, Head of the Presence's Governance in Economic and Environment Issues Department.
Experts of the Inspectorate trained the participants, mainly newly elected local officials, on how to identify cases of conflict of interest, and to address and report them correctly to the respective local and central government authorities.
