Enhancing environmental border protection in Ukraine
15 November 2013
The trafficking of metal scrap polluted with radioactive elements, hazardous waste and banned ozone-depleting substances, as well as of rare and endangered animals and plants, is a global issue and a challenge to any country’s security.
The responsibility to protect human health, the economy and the environment from these threats falls on those who safeguard our borders.
The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine together with the OSCE Office for Economic and Environmental Activities conducted a joint training workshop on radiological control and prevention of environmental crimes for environmental inspectors, border guards and customs officers. The workshop took place in the Orshanets Capacity Building Centre of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Cherkassy, central Ukraine, on 21-25 October 2013.
