Spot Report by OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM): Explosion 100m from SMM near Stanytsia Luhanska bridge
This report is for media and the general public.
At 11:29 (EET) on 14 September, while stationary at an “LPR” checkpoint south of the bridge in Stanytsia Luhanska (16km north-east of Luhansk), the SMM saw and heard what was assessed as an uncontrolled detonation in a forested area approximately 100 metres to the north-west, on the northern side of the river. The SMM saw that none of the approximately 70 civilians waiting at the “LPR” checkpoint to cross the bridge suffered any injuries. On the northern side of the river a number of civilians pointed to shrapnel that they said had landed just after the explosion. The shrapnel was still hot. On further examination of the shrapnel the SMM assessed it was part of an anti-personnel mine (OZM-72). The SMM informed the Joint Centre for Control and Co-ordination.
