Environmental education in Kazakhstan promoted with new OSCE-supported textbook
An OSCE-supported textbook for secondary school students on environmental awareness was launched at a roundtable discussion on improving secondary education on 5 May 2017 in Astana.
The book will be used in an elective course for sixth- and seventh-grade students at Kazakhstan’s secondary schools once it passes the final stage of approval by the Education and Science Ministry.
The event was organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana in partnership with the Zhandanu Alemi Public Foundation and the Education and Science Ministry.
Some 60 teachers from Kazakhstan’s secondary schools and representatives of the Education and Science Ministry discussed environmental education in Kazakhstan and improving academic programmes based on the experience of developed countries. Representatives of Zhandanu Alemi presented a manual called ‘Ecological Culture’, which was developed last year with the financial support of the OSCE Programme Office.
The activity is part of Kazakhstan’s efforts to promote green economic growth and comes under the OSCE Programme Office’s long-term efforts to support the sustainable management of resources and environmental awareness in the host country.
