- July 8, 1992 - Yugoslavia suspended from participation in OSCE (first time and only time to date OSCE has employed consensus minus one mechanism)
- August 14, 1992 - OSCE Missions of Long Duration established for Kosovo, Sandjak and Vojvodina (mission survey)
- September 1992 - OSCE mission deployed to Kosovo, Sandjak and Vojvodina (early warning, reporting on the situation) (mission survey)
- July 1993 - Missions withdrawn after FRY authorities refused to sign MOU to prolong missions. (mission survey)
- December 1996 - Former Spanish Prime Minister Felipe Gonzales becomes OSCE Special Representative to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. (press release)
