OSCE held international conference on prosecution service reform in Moldova
The OSCE Mission to Moldova together with the Prosecutor General’s Office and the National Participation Council organized on 6 December 2012 in Chisinau an international conference on strengthening the independence of the prosecution service in Moldova.
“Prosecutors play a crucial role in the administration of justice,” said Jan Plešinger, Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, at the opening of the event. “As one of its 2012 priorities, the OSCE Mission outlined assistance to facilitate the further reform of the prosecution service to bring it in line with OSCE principles and commitments in respect of rule of law and we are committed to continuing this support.”
Valeriu Zubco, General Prosecutor of the Republic of Moldova; Vanu Jereghi, representing the National Participation Council; and Dirk Lorenz, Political Officer of the Delegation of the European Union to Moldova, as well as experts from Latvia, Lithuania and the United States took part in the event.
The event brought together some 70 participants representing international organizations, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Moldova and representatives from the regional prosecutor’s offices who discussed matters related to the emergence of a modern judicial culture and to the independence of prosecutors in a democratic society
The conference was the final event of a joint project carried out by the OSCE Mission to Moldova in co-operation with the Prosecutor General’s Office related to the support for prosecution service reform and capacity building, based on the experience of the Baltic States.
