OSCE Mission in Kosovo supports multilingual TV and radio programmes
PRISHTINË/PRIŠTINA, 8 April 2011 – The OSCE Mission in Kosovo today launched a project to support production of programmes in languages other than Albanian at the Radio and Television of Kosovo (RTK).
The project aims to foster the co-operation between the public broadcaster and local TV and independent production companies, in order to improve the quality of information offered to non-Albanian communities by ensuring better and more insightful reporting, as well as increase the volume of the information delivered to the audiences.
“This project will support the promotion of the RTK’s multilingual programming and thus bring information closer to all the communities,” said Ambassador Werner Almhofer, the Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo. “It will also assist local TV stations in developing their production capacities.”
Under the project, from today until 30 November, 192 short TV feature stories from different parts of Kosovo will be broadcast in the RTK’s weekly programmes in Serbian, Turkish, Bosnian and Romani languages.
The feature stories will be produced by local TV companies. Serbian language TV stations TV Puls, TV Herc and TV Mir, as well as Radio Goraždevac, will produce feature stories for the weekly Serbian language programme ‘Nedeljni kolaž’; Prizren-based TV Besa will contribute to the Turkish language weekly programme ‘Mozaik’; independent production company TV Diaspora from Pejë/Peć will produce feature stories in Bosnian for ‘Mostovi’ programme; and independent production company Balkan Sunflowers will work on ‘Jekhipe’, a weekly television magazine in Romani language.
The project is a continuation of the co-operation between the Mission and local TV and independent production companies which started in 2010, when short TV reports were produced and broadcast in RTK non-Albanian newscasts and the weekly magazines.
The OSCE Mission in Kosovo seeks to ensure a sustainable, professional and independent public broadcaster with a focus on access to qualitative information for non-Albanian communities.
