OSCE Representative congratulates Nobel Prize winning writer and journalist from Belarus

VIENNA, 9 October 2015 – OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatović today congratulated Svetlana Alexievich for winning the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Alexievich, a Belarusian writer and journalist working primarily in the documentary prose genre, is the first journalist to win the award.
“The brave voice of Alexievich, recognized by the Nobel jury, has greatly contributed to the pluralism and diversity of opinions on issues of recent history,” Mijatović said. “Her tireless efforts serve as a remarkable example for independent and investigative journalists in Belarus and beyond.”
“This award is a recognition of the indispensable role investigative and courageous writing and journalism has in our society,” Mijatović said.
