Journalists’ safety in Ukraine must be ensured, says OSCE media freedom representative
VIENNA, 29 November 2013 – OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatović today condemned new attacks on journalists in Ukraine.
“Violence against journalists cannot and should not be tolerated in the OSCE region. I trust the Ukrainian authorities will swiftly investigate these attacks, and do their utmost to ensure the safety of media workers, especially during public events,” Mijatović said.
On Friday morning Dmitry Gnap and Yakov Lyubchich from Hromadske.tv were attacked while reporting on the demonstrations in Kyiv. The journalists were injured and their equipment damaged.
On 28 November, Vlad Puchich, Chief Editor of “20 Minutes” newspaper, was attacked and injured in Zhitomir. This was the second attack targeting Puchich in the past few days.
