Second journalist detained in Russia must be set free, says OSCE media freedom representative
VIENNA, 27 September 2013 – OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatović today called on the Russian authorities to release another journalist arrested while covering the Greenpeace action at Gazprom’s Prirazlomnaya platform.
The court in Murmansk detained UK freelance videographer Kieron Bryan for two months pending a piracy investigation.
“It is not acceptable to imprison journalists for doing their work. I call on the Russian authorities to immediately release Kieron Bryan,” said Mijatović.
Kieron Bryan has worked for The Times and The Mirror, and for California-based Current TV, and is currently a freelance journalist.
Yesterday Mijatović called on the Russian authorities to drop all charges against Russian photojournalist Denis Sinyakov who was detained at the same time.
