For ten years South Caucasus Media Conferences has served as a platform for the exchange of information and experience on media freedom developments among all three countries of the region – Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. Throughout this period the conference has welcomed journalists, representatives of the governments, media, civil society and academics to discuss topical media freedom issues.
The 10th anniversary conference will serve as an opportunity to reflect and assess the changes in the media landscape that have taken place in the region during the decade. It is also the right time to sum up how the governments are doing in keeping the promises that they have made regarding media freedom and freedom of expression, to celebrate achievements and contemplate the shortcomings.
This year the conference speakers and participants will review and evaluate the major developments in the past ten years and share their prospects for changing landscape of the media in the region.
On the second day the conference will host two parallel events: a Master Class on the Digital Switchover and a Round-table on Self-Regulation of Traditional and Online Media. Together with experts from Albany Associates the participants will share experiences, solutions and concerns, and discuss individual cases.
The conference is financially sponsored by the Lithuania, Luxemburg, Norway, Switzerland and the United States and supported by the OSCE Office in Baku and OSCE Office in Yerevan.
The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media and Albany Associates will conduct research during the conference to understand the major media developments and impact of media freedom initiatives by the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media across the region.
At the end of the conference a declaration will be adopted and shared with the authorities of the South Caucasus states.
