Discussions on Transdniestrian settlement held in Moscow
MOSCOW, 21 June 2011 – The Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for Protracted Conflicts, Ambassador Giedrius Čekuolis chaired a 5+2 meeting today in Moscow for the settlement of the Transdniestria conflict.
The 5+2 format comprises the sides, mediators and observers in the negotiation process: the Republic of Moldova, Transdniestria, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, the OSCE, the United States and the European Union.
The 5+2 participants released the following statement:
"An informal round of consultations in the 5+2 format was held in Moscow on 21 June. The participants discussed opportunities for the resumption of the official work of the ‘Permanent Conference on Political Issues in the Framework of the Negotiating Process for Transdniestrian Settlement’. In order to allow participants in the 5+2 format to consult in their respective capitals, the meeting was suspended under a 'stopping the clock' procedure. The meeting will be continued without preconditions in Moscow at a point in time to be agreed."
