OSCE Representative on Freedom of Media Dunja Mijatović reappointed
The 57 OSCE participating States unanimously agreed on 7 March 2013 to reappoint the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatović of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to a second three-year term.
The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara, welcomed Mijatović’s reappointment: "The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media carries out crucial work to assist participating States in implementing the OSCE principles and commitments pertaining to freedom of expression and free media.”
He pointed out that three consecutive OSCE Chairmanships, including Ukraine, made media-freedom issues a priority. “The mandate of the Representative, agreed by all 57 participating States of the OSCE, provides the Representative with the practical tools to highlight challenges to media freedom as well as to promote legislative and other steps for ensuring free and pluralistic media environment and safety of journalists. I am confident that Mijatović’s experience and expertise will serve us well in the future,” Kozhara said.
