OSCE supports Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative conference in Kazakhstan
The annual OSCE-supported national conference on Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) took place on 26 October 2016 in Astana, Kazakhstan, which brought together over 150 representatives of parliament, government institutions, civil society, international organizations and companies in the extractive industry.
The event was organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana in co-operation with the EITI Secretariat in Kazakhstan, KazEnergy, Association of Mining and Metallurgic Enterprises, the German International Co-operation Agency (GIZ) and the Soros Foundation.
Participants discussed ways to collaborate and achieve the EITI objectives in the country and reviewed opportunities for social investments, Kazakhstan’s readiness to pass the EITI validation procedure, civil society’s involvement in environmental decision-making and ways to enhance interaction between the government, civil society and business representatives.
The event is part of the Office’s multi-year efforts to promote good governance and sustainable development, as well as to advance democratic development in the host country.
