OSCE Programme Office in Astana supports human rights education for police
An OSCE-organized train-the-trainers course on human rights for 11 instructors from the Interior Ministry’s higher educational institutions across the country began today on 12 October 2015 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The two-day training seminar is co-organized by the OSCE Programme Office Astana in partnership with the Interior Ministry and the Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights and Rule of Law.
During the event, experts from the Bureau and the Interior Ministry will conduct courses with interactive elements and share best practices and international experience. The participants will receive the handbook “The Protection of Human Rights as a Function and the Responsibility of Police”, which is tailored to teach and train police officers on the legal and practical aspects of human rights protection.
The train-the-trainers course reflects new developments in Kazakhstan’s legal and criminal justice reform and continues a series of similar events as part of the Programme Office’s multi-year efforts to promote democratic policing. Train-the-trainer and master class events in the framework of this project have been held in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
