OSCE Centre organizes training for staff of TV channels in Turkmenistan
ASHGABAT, 17 September 2015 - TV news production skills are the focus of a training course that concludes tomorrow in Ashgabat.
Organized by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat in close co-operation with the State Committee on TV, Radio and Cinematography of Turkmenistan, the four-day event brought together 20 staff members of Turkmenistan’s TV news channels, including editors, reporters and camera crews, as well as sound and picture editors. The practical training course aimed to enhance the participants’ knowledge about modern techniques of TV news production.
Two international trainers presented various schools of TV journalism. They discussed different approaches to TV reporting, interviewing techniques and script writing, instruments used by camera crews and techniques of shooting and editing TV stories.
"Despite the rapid development of new media, television continues to attract large numbers of viewers", said Richard Wheeler, Officer-in-Charge of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat.
“As a result of the emergence of new technologies, the forms and functions of television are increasingly diversifying, which requires television staff to keep up with the times and continuously upgrade their professional skills. We hope this training course will assist the editorial and technical staff of Turkmenistan’s TV channels in building their capacity to produce news programmes that are in line with modern requirements and correspond to the interests of their audience".
The course participants discussed the construction of a TV news programme and had the opportunity to create, shoot and edit short TV news reports. They also considered the interaction between TV reporters and camera crews and shared views on the role of TV news in the modern world.
